We are all going to a royal rumbleGetting into a boxing ring mustn be easy. You walk out amongst a cheering or booing crowd, with most already deciding your fate in there head before you even throw your first punch. As you climb through the ropes, you are enclosed into what is referred to as the 'ring', yet as we all can see, and know, its very far from a ring. The combatants jump around inside warming up, and exuding confidence. They eye ball each other from a far, and then face to face. Then with one word, 'fight' they are into it, pounding on each other with no regard for anything or their bodies! ... Read MoreAuckland World CupYou all read my email before the race, and well, I'd like to say I did my best to honor every word I wrote down! I think you all saw it written over my face, and heard it in my voice after the race, what that all meant to myself and my family. ... Read More Three races in 21 days!Well its been awhile since my last update, but as you all knew, I been racing here in America with the hope to secure a qualifying spot for the big Hy-Vee race in Des Moines Iowa in September. Since leaving New Zealand I've been based in Santa Cruz, California. I've been training there with Bevan ( Docherty) and a small, but loyal band or merry men. Its been alot of fun, and all the big key sessions were met head on! ... Read MoreInside Out Race ReportBack to Back! so great to win my Oceania and National title again this year over the weekend in "sunny" Wellington. I've been training like mad in terms of hours, so I was really looking forward to racing and having some fun out there. The last 3 weeks as most of you know have been based at my favorite training haunt the Snowfarm on top the of the Pisa range, in the Cardrona valley just outside Wanaka. Its amazing up there, and when I'm training there I always get in great amounts of quality work done. Being at altitude also means some extra care is needed though. But me and altitude know each other well over the years, and we have worked the gig out quite nicely now. ... But really a great race, and always love getting pushed to the limit like that. Here\'s a short break down for you all from behind the scenes of what you may not have \"seen\" or \"heard\" on the TV! and for all those living outside the boudaries of New Zealand. ... Read MoreNothing like TriathlonAs a professional triathlete who travels the world in pursuit of my dream, there is no better way to finish a hard season than to come to an event where the most enjoyable part of the race is just being a part of it. To share that with 10,000 other participants is merely the bonus this race gives any athlete. After crashing in Budapest and then training with the Raelert boys ( Micheal and Andreas) in Orlando, I just felt like I needed to race one more time and end on a high note after all the work I'd put in this season. I'd done some great training with the boys, and although it had mainly revolved around ironman, I felt strong and eager to race. ... Read MoreThe World Championship series begins!Well we have finally arrived at the beginning of the season for real that is. The first round of the World Championship series kicks off this sunday in Sydney, the so called home of triathlon where we presented the first ever olympic medals our sport earned back in 2000. I can remember that day as if it was yesterday, sitting on my parents couch at home in Palmerston North watching Hamish, Craig and Ben gut it out. And then seeing this little plucky Canadian sprint to gold out of nowhere ( Simon Whitfield ) and from that moment on, the Olympics for me were more real than ever. ... Read MoreKris Gemmell - Takapuna International sprint TriathlonWell its the day after the "Street fight in Takapuna" which did eventuate, just not with the combatants everyone had thought it would be between! However another amazing race in front of a huge crowd along the fast and twisting course in Takapuna. I've raced in some amazing places during my time in this great sport, but there is nothing better than racing in front of a home crowd like that. It just takes you to another level even so soon into the season, you benefit so greatly from all the friendly support of all the spectators both on and off the course when you know its going live to air. TVNZ do a great job of showing our sport to all of New Zealand at home, and I hope they enjoyed just how exciting triathlon is. ... Read MoreIronman World Championships KonaWell I just want to let you all know how Kona went last weekend for my mate ( Andreas Raelert ) that I've been helping train since he was with me in Palmerston North all summer this year. As I said to you all after the Final World Championship Series race on the Gold Coast, my racing year may have finished but my year was far from over with Andreas racing in Kona. My plan had been to head straight to Austin Texas to train with Andreas before his big debut in Kona. That all went south when I got sick before the Gold Coast and then got even more crook after the race. So instead of heading straight there and risking passing anything to Andreas we decided to just meet up in Kona 12 days before the race itself. ...
