Successful night at the Central Energy Trust Manawatu Sports Awards

Sarah Goss has gone from sevens sister to the queen of the Manawatu sporting world. The captain of the olympic silver medal-winning New Zealand Women's Sevens team was named the supreme winner at the Manawatu Sports Awards on Friday night. Apiti's Goss was also crowned Manawatu sportswoman of the year at the ceremony at the Arena. Along with her Rio Olympic success, Goss also made her debut for the Black Ferns last year and is one of the best sevens players in the World Series circuit. Grassroots Sports Awards Winners Announced

Winners of the Grassroots Sports Awards were announced on Friday at a ceremony at the Palmerston North Convention Centre. Just under 100 nominations were received for Sport Manawatu’s annual awards, which celebrate individual and organisational volunteer involvement in sport. Sport Manawatu Trevor Shailer said, “This event recognises the tremendous effort that goes into managing sport around our region. So many people give their time and energy to keep the machinery of sport ticking over efficiently. 2016 Grassroots Sports Awards Nominees

Just under 100 nominations have been received for the Sport Manawatu Grassroots Sports Awards, which celebrate organisations and volunteers that support sporting involvement in the region. There are nine categories of awards for individual volunteers and organisations, and for various initiatives such as fundraising. The awards ceremony takes place on Friday 18 November at the Palmerston North Convention Centre from 6pm. Tickets are $25 or $20 each for groups of six or more and include a light meal.
