Sport Manawatu Regional Sports Conference
On Friday May 18 2012, Sport Manawatu hosted the inaugural Regional Sports Conference at the Sport & Rugby Institute in Palmerston North. Over 65 people attended and heard from expert presenters on a diverse range of topics.
A major highlight for many was hearing from keynote speaker Olympic Gold Medallist Kerri Pottharst who motivated and inspired her audience. Other sessions focused on key topics including engaging young people, events, working with schools, Teaching Games for Understanding, attracting members, integrating mental skills into trainings and self evaluation for coaches and players.
The conference provided a professional development and networking opportunity for sports administrators, coaches, teachers and others involved in the delivery and running of sport across the region.
With the success of this conference, Sport Manawatu is hoping to run similar development opportunities in the future.
Sport Manawatu would like to thank Volleyball New Zealand, Sport New Zealand, Eastern & Central Community Trust and Massey University for helping make the inaugural Regional Sports Conference a success.
