Sport Manawatu Athlete Scholarships
Sport Manawatu offers scholarships through our 500 Club. The 500 Club consists of a number of local businesses who contribute to a pool of funding, designed to assist local sportspeople to continue to participate in their chosen sport/s while at the same time making it a little easier to undertake tertiary study.
The value of the scholarship is $1,500.00 for each year that it's awarded and is renewable for a maximum of three years or in special cases may be extended until you complete all degree requirements. If the latter is inevitable then each request is reviewed on a case-by-case basis. It generally applies to those that cannot commit to a full-time study programme due to training and sporting requirements.
What can it pay for?
You can use the scholarship to pay for any reasonable item/fee that will assist your participation in sport and academia, for example you can use the scholarship for any of the following:
- sporting equipment
- competition entry fees
- course fees
- course books
- relevant information technology
You may be asked to assist Sport Manawatu from time to time as a role model and/or representative of the organisation. This may involve public speaking, publicity material and/or competing in sporting/physical activity events and assisting with delivery of some programmes. It is anticipated that if you are available to assist, that you would do so.
