More information will be available later in the year.

iMove April-May 2010

Horowhenua District Council, took out the iMove Workplaces Challenge this time with 840 active trips made by their staff. Almost every one of their 108 staff members took part, and were there to receive their award at a morning tea presentation by Sport Manawatu.  "It was great to see the Council had really got into the challenge and included some of their own in-house awards to keep the motivation going. Some of their prizes were for best dressed, and most improved," said, Michelle Allan, iMove Coordinator at Sport Manawatu.

Nineteen different businesses took part in the iMove Workplace Challenge throughout the region, including small businesses with 5 staff to those with 450 staff! Each business that took part received a free resource pack which included some great prizes.

Sport Manawatu held a function at the end of April to celebrate the iMove challenge and give out some prizes to those businesses taking part. Mid Central DHB won a commuter bike, which was part sponsored by Crank It Cycles.

iMove Workplaces was introduced in April 2009 and has grown ever since. Starting with 11 workplaces, 120 participants and 1,120 active trips, it has now increased to 19 workplaces, 372 participants and 4,260 active trips in the April/May 2010 promotion. This is an increase of 280% of active transport trips since the first promotion a year ago!

How does it work?

Leave your car at home, dust off your bike or walking shoes and get active!

If you cycle or walk to work during April or May, you could win a number of great prizes. Simply register for the FREE iMove Workplaces promotion, and get moving!

We'll provide you with iMove cards and each time you walk or cycle to work, or to a meeting, your card gets stamped. Once you've filled up the card with 5 stamps, it goes into your workplace prize draw. Compete against others in your workplace and against other workplaces.

When your workplace registers for iMove you will be given a free resource pack full of prizes and vouchers to distribute as you wish.

Staff are given an iMove card and they receive a stamp each time they walk or cycle to work or to a meeting. Once their card is filled up, it goes into the iMove box, which is used for prize draws. Prizes include

54% increase for iMove Workplaces in November 2009

There was a 54% increase in the number of workplaces taking part in the iMove Workplace programme in November, compared to the April programme. 17 workplaces took part during November with over 250 people walking and cycling to work in Manawatu, Horowhenua and Tararua.

Some workplaces managed to get 100% of their staff doing the programme, while others reported an increase in fitness levels, more social interaction among the staff and one person even managed to reduce their blood/sugar level by 50%.

A free breakfast was held in the Square on 27 November to celebrate the end of the iMove Workplaces month. Staff from several workplaces enjoyed the healthy food options, wonderful live music, free cycle checks by Crank It Cycles and information from the Manawatu Triathlon Club.

iMove Workplaces launch in April 2009

iMove Workplaces continued to grow in popularity as word got around businesses that people should try walking and biking to work. 104 people participated in the iMove Workplace challenge during April 2009.

It was fantastic to see 118 people use active transport to come to the iMove Bikers Breakfast in the Square on Thursday April 16th. TVNZ's coverage of the morning was a great way for Palmerston North to showcase how we are getting cars off the road by using active transport instead. Unfortunately Tamati had injured his ankle dancing so was unable to join us and Matt was our presenter.

Thank you to The Crown Creperie for providing their delicious crepes, Team Tracs for letting people have a go on their bike jumps, and Crank It Cycles for doing free bike checks.
