RSO Liasion
What is the RSO Liaison Process?
The Regional Sports Organisation (RSO) liaison process was established to ensure each of the 54 RSOs in our region have regular contact with Sport Manawatu and are aware of what assistance is available.
It allows Sport Manawatu to gather accurate information on the participation and development of sport in the region. It also allows us to identify any trends, issues or best practice examples and then assist the organisation to address and or recognise them.
Supporting documents
Sport and Recreation New Zealand (SPARC) has indicated that there is a need for increased capability within RSO's and this is in line with SPARC's mission of having the most effective sport and physical recreation systems in the world. Our Regional Sport and Active Recreation Strategy also identifies the need for RSO's to be more capable in order to increase participation and develop long term sustainable sports and recreational organisations. Similarly, the Manawatu District Council Leisure Plan (2002) indicates the need for RSO's and clubs to be supported and encouraged to attract members and provide links for networking and best practice. These documents support the development of the RSO Liaison process and furthermore will assist in providing the direction for what the process is trying to achieve.
How does it work?
The process provides RSO's with an assigned Sport Manawatu liaison who is the first point of call for communication. In addition, the liaison will attend annual general meetings, gather database and statistical information, promote Sport Manawatu business and facilitate any further assistance that the RSO may need.
This process adds significant value to Sport Manawatu and the work it continues to do with the large number of community groups and stakeholders in the region. The RSO Liaison process ultimately assists Sport Manawatu to achieve its main goal of increasing physical activity in the Sport Manawatu region and consequently increase the quality of sustainable relationships formed with RSO's and their clubs.
