iMove Case Study - Parsons Avenue Kindergarten

Parents, teachers and children from Parsons Avenue Kindergarten say they aren't afraid of a bit of rain.

Every Thursday at 8.30am a group meets at Jubilee Park and walks the kilometre to the kindergarten €“ rain or shine.

Since starting the programme in early 2009, they have only missed two Thursdays. Head Teacher Anne Jakeman says that was because there was hail and thunder outside.

Sport Manawatu iMove coordinator, Felicity Masters, says that Parsons Avenue Kindergarten is an iMove role model for other early childhood centres and schools.

€œiMove helps children form healthy and sustainable habits while educating them about road safety and Parsons Avenue Kindergarten really encompass what iMove is all about by doing this walk every Thursday, € she says.

€œI'm really impressed with what Anne and the staff at the kindergarten have done to make iMove a part of their kindergarten's culture and the dedication the parents, family and children put in to attend the walk is excellent. €
