Trevor Shailer wins Māori Sports Administrator of the Year for 2016

This year's winner of the Māui Tikitiki-a-Taranga Māori Sports Administrator of the Year award was given to Trevor Shailer (Ngāti Kauwhata, Ngāti Hauti). Shailer is the current CEO of Sport Manawatu and was the Deputy Chef De Mission at the 2016 Rio Olympics. He managed the interface with athletes and team members at the Olympics to ensure our athletes had every chance of success. This included developing the athlete's connection with home, strengthening their sense of belonging through key rituals and stimulating the wairua of the New Zealand contingent. Grassroots Sports Awards Winners Announced

Winners of the Grassroots Sports Awards were announced on Friday at a ceremony at the Palmerston North Convention Centre. Just under 100 nominations were received for Sport Manawatu’s annual awards, which celebrate individual and organisational volunteer involvement in sport. Sport Manawatu Trevor Shailer said, “This event recognises the tremendous effort that goes into managing sport around our region. So many people give their time and energy to keep the machinery of sport ticking over efficiently. 2016 Grassroots Sports Awards Nominees

Just under 100 nominations have been received for the Sport Manawatu Grassroots Sports Awards, which celebrate organisations and volunteers that support sporting involvement in the region. There are nine categories of awards for individual volunteers and organisations, and for various initiatives such as fundraising. The awards ceremony takes place on Friday 18 November at the Palmerston North Convention Centre from 6pm. Tickets are $25 or $20 each for groups of six or more and include a light meal.
