Keeping fit and active by playing sport or volunteering

Every year, more than 750,000 volunteers contribute over 50 million voluntary hours to sport in New Zealand. We call them "sport makers, hearts of our community", because without them, sport just simply wouldn't happen. Referees, line judges, club secretaries, fundraisers, team managers all make sport possible. Sports organisations are always on the lookout for new volunteers and there are numerous opportunities for joining the volunteer workforce to support sport in our region. Commonwealth Games reps get hearty hometown welcome

It has been a busy first half of 2018 for the team here at Sport Manawatū. We're all taking stock of how well this region embraces sport and an active lifestyle. We have celebrated many of the region's top sports people, officials and coaches at both the Manawatū and Tararua Sports Awards, we have trained alongside the Whānau Tri participants, supported the hosting of New Zealand Secondary Schools Volleyball Championships, and have exceeded our targets for our successful Active Families programme.
