Secondary School Sports Awards 2017

To recognise the achievements of our student athletes, officials and volunteers.

With over 182 nominations and a new major sponsor, the Manawatu Secondary School Sport Awards is set for another fantastic evening later this month, dedicated to recognising student achievement.

The House of Travel Stephen Parsons Manawatu Secondary School Sports Awards will recognise almost 100 New Zealand representatives on October 25.

Sport Manawatu’s Chief Executive, Trevor Shailer, says the Awards are an important part of sport in our region.

“We are traditionally a region that punches well above our weight with talented sporting individuals. It is awesome to see our secondary schools recognising the achievements of their students.”

The major categories will capture the region’s interest with four national title winning teams in contention.

Palmerston North Boys’ High and Palmerston North Girls’ High have been busy taking the country by storm this year, with PNBHS Triathlon and Karting winning their respective national titles while PNGHS has followed suit in Canoe Polo and Squash.

In recent years, the Supreme Boy and Girl Awards have been awarded to our Junior World Champion Cyclists, however this year, we have several Junior World Champions in the mix across different codes.

Shailer says these Awards couldn’t be put on without the support of local organisations, pointing to a new partnership with House of Travel Stephen Parsons.

Managing Director Stephen Parsons says House of Travel Stephen Parsons has always identified with achievement.

“We see a strong synergy between excellence in sport and excellence in business and, for that reason, we have become the naming rights sponsor of the Secondary School Sports Awards.

“It is our 30th year of operation and organising travel for schools and local sports teams has been a significant component of our business. We pride ourselves on meticulously handling every aspect of group travel.”

Sport Manawatu would like to thank all sponsors for their involvement in the House of Travel Stephen Parsons Secondary School Sports Awards in 2017: Massey University Sport & Rugby Institute, UCOL, Visique Naylor Palmer, Massey University Student Association, Café Cuba and finally Salming NZ for their continued support.

The House of Travel Stephen Parsons Secondary School Sports Awards will take place at the Awapuni Function Centre on October 25. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased via the Sport Manawatu website and also there will be the opportunity for door sales.
