TOP TARARUA SPORTSPEOPLE CELEBRATED AT ANNUAL AWARDS

Friday night saw the celebration of the Tararua region’s top sportspeople at the Downer Tararua Sports Awards, held at the Dannevirke Town Hall. The evening celebrated and recognised the achievements over the last two years. Taking out the Downer Supreme Sportsperson of the Year was water sports star, Anne Cairns. Cairns, who represented Samoa at the 2016 Rio Olympics, is also the first female to represent New Zealand across four disciplines: Wildwater kayaking, Sprint Flatwater Kayaking, Whitewater Rafting and Waka Ama.   An impressive list of local sportspeople have been named as finalists for this year’s Downer Tararua Sports Awards. TOP MANAWATU SPORTSPEOPLE CELEBRATED AT ANNUAL AWARDS

Tonight saw the celebration of the Manawatu region’s top sportspeople at the Central Energy Trust (CET) Manawatu Sports Awards, held at the CET Arena in Palmerston North. Taking out the CET Supreme Sportsperson of the Year was New Zealand motorsport darling Brendon Hartley, who will be at the starting line of Formula One’s first Grand Prix of the 2018 season in Melbourne on March 25. Manawatu Toyota Grassroots Sports Awards 2017

Manawatu’s most dedicated volunteers took to the stage of the Palmerston North Conference and Function Centre last Friday, November 17 at the Manawatu Toyota Grassroots Sports Awards. From Youth to Super Volunteers (25+ years of service), the awards exposed the variety of hardworking volunteers among the region. Sport Manawatu is set to recognise the region’s most dedicated sport volunteers and organisations at the Manawatu Toyota Grassroots Sports Awards next week. Successful night at the Central Energy Trust Manawatu Sports Awards

Sarah Goss has gone from sevens sister to the queen of the Manawatu sporting world. The captain of the olympic silver medal-winning New Zealand Women's Sevens team was named the supreme winner at the Manawatu Sports Awards on Friday night. Apiti's Goss was also crowned Manawatu sportswoman of the year at the ceremony at the Arena. Along with her Rio Olympic success, Goss also made her debut for the Black Ferns last year and is one of the best sevens players in the World Series circuit. Grassroots Sports Awards Winners Announced

Winners of the Grassroots Sports Awards were announced on Friday at a ceremony at the Palmerston North Convention Centre. Just under 100 nominations were received for Sport Manawatu’s annual awards, which celebrate individual and organisational volunteer involvement in sport. 2016 Grassroots Sports Awards Nominees

Just under 100 nominations have been received for the Sport Manawatu Grassroots Sports Awards, which celebrate organisations and volunteers that support sporting involvement in the region. There are nine categories of awards for individual volunteers and organisations, and for various initiatives such as fundraising. The awards ceremony takes place on Friday 18 November at the Palmerston North Convention Centre from 6pm. Tickets are $25 or $20 each for groups of six or more and include a light meal.
