Community Involvement

Active Rec for Rangatahi

Active recreation is regarded as non-competitive physical activity for the purpose of wellbeing and enjoyment. It includes activities that occur in built, landscaped and natural environments, including outdoor recreation, fitness and exercise, community recreation, and aquatics.

Active recreation is a great way to improve all aspects of your hauora by spending time with friends, connection to the land, challenging yourself, and having fun!

Sport Manawatū is aspiring to reduce the drop off in activity levels for rangatahi to ensure they get to experience the many benefits associated with regular physical activity. For many rangatahi, sport no longer provides opportunities that capture their interests or meet their needs, therefore active recreation has seen a huge growth in popularity due to its participant-led nature and flexibility to have fun how they want to!

When working with rangatahi it is important to put on a positive youth development lens, which is why Sport Manawatū uses the Mana Taiohi framework as a foundation for all work involving rangatahi.

Sport Manawatū is a proud advocate for youth voice across our four districts (Palmerston North, Horowhenua, Manawatū and Tararua).
